Metabarcoding and Metagenomics Receives its First Journal Impact Factor

23 June 2025

Metabarcoding and Metagenomics has received its first ever Journal Impact Factor, 3.1, according to the latest Web of Science data, reports ARPHA Platform’s Indexing team. This value places the journal in Q2 in the Ecology category on Web of Science.

In late June, Clarivate released the 2025 Journal Citation Report (JCR). The report reflects how many times content published in a particular journal in 2022 and 2023 was cited in the last complete year: 2024. Then, this total count is divided by the number of “citable” (i.e. research and review) articles to estimate the JIF for the year.

The journal's Editor-in-Chief, Prof Dr Florian Leese said: "The Impact Factor is an important metric for scientific metrics. And we know that not having one hinders especially early career researchers to submit their research to us earlier. Therefore, we are very happy that MBMG has received this important metric, and with a value of 3.1 we’re even more happy that this is a very competitive one."

Earlier in June, Metabarcoding and Metagenomics received its 2024 Scopus CiteScore: 5.3

The latest JIF, alongside the current Scopus CiteScore and CiteScore Tracker are conveniently displayed on the journal website’s homepage. They also appear in the journal’s newsletter.
